Cultural Competency Program - Oklahoma Department of Mental and Substance Abuse Services
Tuesday, September 23, 2008: 2:00 PM-4:00 PM, Minn Marriott, 6th Floor - St. Croix I
Successful implementation of a systemic strategic Cultural Competency plan requires support, commitment and participation at all levels of an organization in order to achieve success.  This workshop will include discussion of how to assess readiness for systemic change, key components of a strategic plan, and how to begin implementation based on the readiness of your program.

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is implementing a systemic strategic Cultural Competency plan.  This plan has the support, commitment and participation of our Leadership Team which consists of our Commissioner, Chief Operating Officer and three Deputy Commissioners.  We also strongly believe that successful implementation of this Cultural Competency plan requires the participation of all our staff members.  While we are implementing this plan in our agency, we are also sharing the plan as a model for other State agencies, consumer advocacy and non-profit organizations to utilize as well.

During the first 30 minutes of this workshop, participants will receive a brief overview of our systemic strategic Cultural Competency plan. During the final 30 minutes, participants will have the opportunity to ask more detailed follow up questions concerning the plan, and assess readiness for implementation within their respective programs.
