Biographical Sketch: Elaine J. Yuen is Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy. She received her Ph.D. in Health Care Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Yuen is also an hospital-based interfaith chaplain and meditation teacher. She has lectured on diversity, end of life, and medicine at professional conferences, colleges and universities; and written regularly for the Living Religion Page of the Philadelphia Inquirer. She is currently Principal Investigator in a project studying ethnic disparities in GERD recognition and treatment; and Co-Principal Investigator/Evaluation Lead for a project that will engage immigrant Southeast Asian seniors in the process of health needs identification, first-person storytelling, video production, and community discussion about health. Previous projects have assessed the biopsychosocial factors contributing to asthma prevalence in school children; television programming and awareness of caregiver needs; and mental health of Korean immigrant women as they care for their elderly relatives.
